Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) is a premier public institution in Tanzania specifically mandated to provide high-quality training, research, and consultancy in the fields of science, engineering, and technology. Located in the Southern Highlands of Mbeya City, the university has evolved significantly since its inception in 1986 as Mbeya Technical College (MTC). It later transitioned into the Mbeya Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in 2005, before being elevated to a fully-fledged university in 2012. As of 2026, the university operates across three campuses: the Main Campus in Mbeya, the Rukwa Campus College (MRCC) in Kianda, and the Mtwara Campus of Technical Education. The academic structure of MUST is designed to produce highly skilled graduates capable of competing in the global labor market. For the 2025/2026 academic year, the university hosts seven distinct colleges and several directorates offering programs ranging from certificates and diplomas to bachelor’s degrees and postgraduate studies.
