Established in 1980, Bandari College Dar es Salaam serves as the primary training institution for the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA). Located in the Tandika area, it was founded to address the growing need for specialized skills in port operations and maritime logistics. Over the decades, it has evolved into a center of excellence, training approximately 95% of the workforce in Tanzania’s maritime sub sector. The college is officially registered by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) and offers a variety of competence-based programs. These include National Technical Awards (NTA) at Levels 4, 5, and 6 in fields such as Shipping and Port Operations Management, Maritime Transport and Logistics, and Fire and Safety Management. Beyond long-term diploma courses, the institution is well-known for its intensive short courses designed for equipment operators, covering heavy machinery like gantry cranes, forklifts, and reachstackers. To ensure students are industry-ready, Bandari College utilizes modern facilities, including full-mission simulation rooms where trainees can practice ship-to-shore gantry operations in a controlled environment. Its curriculum is designed in collaboration with industry stakeholders to align with global maritime standards.
