The People’s Bank of Zanzibar (PBZ Bank) is a fully-fledged commercial bank that holds a unique position as one of the oldest financial institutions in Tanzania. Established on June 30, 1966, the bank is 100% owned by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar. While it began its operations primarily to serve the islands of Unguja and Pemba, PBZ has significantly expanded its footprint, now operating a network of over 28 branches across both Zanzibar and the Tanzanian mainland, including major hubs like Dar es Salaam and Mwanza.
