Mkulazi Holding Company Limited (MHCL) is a major Tanzanian sugar manufacturing firm established in September 2016. It operates as a strategic joint venture between the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), which holds a 96% stake, and the Tanzania Prisons Service (PCS), which owns the remaining 4%. The company was founded with the primary objective of closing the national sugar gap and reducing Tanzania’s dependence on imported sugar for both domestic and industrial use. The company’s core operations are centered at the Mbigiri Estate in the Kilosa District of the Morogoro Region. This massive agricultural project includes a state-of-the-art sugar processing plant designed to produce high-quality brown sugar and refined industrial sugar. Beyond sugar production, MHCL is a multi-purpose industrial hub that generates its own electricity through co generation and produces bio-ethanol, contributing to the country’s renewable energy goals. Since its inception, MHCL has become a vital driver of economic growth in the region.
