The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) is a Tanzanian Premium Health and Allied Sciences University established in 2007 through Article 1 of the Charter of Incorporation in line with the Universities Act No 7 of 2005. Since its establishment, MUHAS has managed to have a range of programmes in biomedical, clinical and allied health sciences which necessitates increasing of number of staff to perform its intended function. The University has a range of programmes in biomedical, clinical and allied health sciences. These programmes are taught in the five Schools and one academic Institute of the University. The Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at MUHAS, in collaboration with the University of North Carolina (UNC, USA), is planning to conduct a study in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Kilimanjaro, and Mbeya Regions titled “Family Psychoeducation for Adults with Psychotic Disorders in Tanzania” and branded in Swahili as KUPAA (Kuwezeshana Kupata Uzima). The study aims to reduce disability, improve quality of life, and reduce hospitalizations among adults living with schizophrenia, and to reduce the family burden for caregivers.
