1. JOB TITLE: PROJECT OFFICER
LOCATION: Ruvuma Wilderness Project, Ruvuma, Tanzania
REPORTS TO: Landscape Manager, Ruvuma Wilderness Project
Carbon Tanzania is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Officer to coordinate and provide assistance to villages with VLFR/s on forest protection and planning using the finance from sale of carbon credits.

Carbon Tanzania develops forest carbon projects that deliver verified carbon credits, providing a sustainable financing mechanism for forest conservation and community development. Our projects encourage local communities to protect their natural resources, while also contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.
THE RUVUMA WILDERNESS PROJECT:
The Ruvuma Wilderness Project focuses on the conservation of a large Miombo forest area in southern Tanzania. Working in close collaboration with local communities, the project aims to reduce deforestation, enhance livelihoods, and secure the long-term health of the ecosystem.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Communications
A. Communicate implementation
- Telephone (consistent means of comms)
- II. Individual meetings (Village/Ward Governments)
- Individual meetings (Village leaders)
- VGS groups:
- Patrolling
- LUP boundaries
- Retraining project goals
B. Communications with stakeholders (as instructed by management)
- Partners
- Researchers
- Journalists
- Clients / customers of Carbon Tanzania
- Communications with the District relevant officials District Commissioner and regional commissioner office.
- WMA’s Management
2. Consistent follow up
- Coordination with Village Natural Resources Committees
- Regular scheduled / unscheduled meetings with Village Governments ,VNRC’s and Communities
- Coordinated monitoring of individuals near project boundaries
- Support to ensure LUP/project area/important sites are well managed
3. Education
- Information dissemination on the project and forest protection matters
- All groups: sub-villages, village governments LUP and REDD project
4. Attend government meetings and represent Carbon Tanzania
5. Data collection MRV-Reporting
- VGS – Cluey / SMART / verbal / images / informal
- Collation of
- Project reports
- Reporting to stakeholders in government and non-government
6. Revenue distribution – use – reporting
- Attend revenue and steering committee meetings / mediate meetings / encourage gender balance on the project decision and implementations
- Assist decision making whereby help community understand the requirement i.e. project guidelines, government standards, by-laws
- Follow up of uses of revenue / management / implementation
- Documentation of minutes and data and reports
7. Individual project activities and events
- Planning
- Executions and
- Follow ups and managements
8. Cooperate and work closely with member village governments and WMA’s management on carbon projects to ensure smooth running of the project and follow ups.
9. Ensure villages and WMA follow and adhere to the contract/ MoU that they have signed with Carbon Tanzania.
10. Coordinating VNRCs, Villages, Carbon Tanzania and District on Carbon project matters.
11. Send weekly updates on project progress Forest, Land Use Plans, Animals, community issues, by laws, partners, Land Issues/ Boundaries etc.
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in community liaison, stakeholder engagement, monitoring compliance and ensuring project guidelines are followed.
- A Bachelor’s degree in; Community Development, Natural Resource Management, Conservation, Rural Development, and related fields.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including village members, government officials, and partners.
- A high degree of cultural sensitivity, excellent interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, with experience in executing and monitoring field-based project activities.
- Valid motorcycle license, experience riding in rural condition and a clean record
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Experience working in remote, rural areas, preferably within conservation or community development projects.
- Preference will be given to candidates from Ruvuma
