ICAP Tanzania, an affiliate of the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, has been a cornerstone of Tanzania’s public health landscape since 2004. In close partnership with the Ministry of Health, ICAP works to strengthen health systems and expand access to life saving services, particularly in the regions of Mwanza, Geita, and Zanzibar. Its mission is rooted in the belief that high-quality healthcare should be universally accessible, regardless of a community’s geographic or economic standing. A flagship of their current work is the FIKIA Plus project, funded by PEPFAR through the CDC. This initiative uses innovative outreach tools, such as mobile clinics, pharmacies, and even specialized boats, to reach remote fishing and farming communities. By deploying these resources alongside hundreds of bicycles for frontline healthcare workers, ICAP ensures that HIV testing, treatment, and follow-up care reach those who might otherwise be left behind. Beyond HIV care, ICAP is a leader in integrating advanced technology into routine health services. This includes the use of AI-powered smartphone applications to enhance cervical cancer screening, allowing for faster and more accurate diagnosis of lesions.
