Historically, Swiss ties to the region date back to 1927 with a consulate in Tanga, which later moved to Dar es Salaam and was elevated to embassy status in 1966. Today, the mission oversees a broad spectrum of interests, including political dialogue, economic trade, and cultural exchange, while also providing essential consular services such as visa processing and emergency assistance for Swiss nationals. A cornerstone of the embassy’s work is the Swiss Cooperation Programme (2021–2025), which invests approximately USD 24 million annually to support Tanzania’s transition into an equitable middle-income country.
