The Tanzania Health and Medical Education Foundation (TAHMEF) is a HealthTech nonprofit organization founded in 2015. It is dedicated to fostering health equity in Tanzania by providing innovative digital healthcare solutions and educational programs for marginalized populations, particularly youth, rural communities, and those in the informal sector. Led by Executive Director and medical doctor Dr. Juliana Busasi, the foundation works to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible regardless of an individual’s socio-economic status. As of 2026, TAHMEF has established itself as a national leader in youth mental health. Over the past decade, the organization has reached more than 500,000 young people through its outreach and digital services. Its impact is measurable: users have reported an 80% reduction in mental health stigma and a 65% improvement in overall well-being. TAHMEF has also resolved over 10,000 helpline cases and trained more than 50 healthcare workers to provide stigma-free, youth-centered care. TAHMEF’s leadership and innovative model have received significant international recognition, including the 2025 Rising Star Award from the Segal Family Foundation and Dr. Busasi being named a 2024 Echoing Green Fellow.
