The Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania (Ofisi Ya Bunge) is constituted in accordance with Article 62 (1) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania of 1977. Furthermore, Article 88 (1) of the Constitution establishes a Parliamentary Secretariat with the responsibility of enabling the Parliament to carry out its functions. The Parliament of Tanzania is the Legislature whose powers and responsibilities are set out in the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania of 1997, Chapter Three. Article 63(1) of the Constitution states that Parliament is the Supreme Organ of the United Republic of Tanzania which shall have the power on behalf of the people, to supervise and advise the Union Government and all its organs in the exercise of its functions as set out in the Constitution. The mission of the Parliament is to be the voice of the people by properly fulfilling our constitutional responsibilities of representing the people, enacting laws, and overseeing the Government. The vision of the Parliament is to be an effective and responsive Parliament to its citizens.
