TANROADS SACCOS LIMITED (Tanzania Roads Agency Employees’ Savings and Credit Cooperative Society) is a cooperative organization formed by and for the employees of the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), a semi-autonomous agency under the Ministry of Works and Transport responsible for managing the national road network. The SACCOS was established to promote a savings culture and provide accessible, affordable financial services to its members. The cooperative was established in November 2003, a few years after the main TANROADS agency began operations in July 2000. Its formation was driven by the need to create a member-owned financial institution that could provide savings and loan facilities, particularly as access to formal banking services was limited for some employees at the time. It operates legally under the Tanzanian Cooperative Societies Act. Over the years, TANROADS SACCOS has demonstrated significant growth and strong financial performance. It has consistently increased its membership base, which stood at approximately 1,927 as of late 2024. The cooperative has also grown its loan portfolio and overall capital base, securing a strong position among other SACCOS nationally. The organization is recognized for its sound financial management, having received clean audit reports and praise from the TANROADS Chief Executive for fulfilling legal requirements and consistently growing its value. It also engages in social responsibility initiatives, providing community support in various regions.Â
