Plan International Tanzania is a prominent humanitarian and development organization. It has operated in the country since 1991 to advance children’s rights and equality for girls. Working closely with communities, government bodies, and local partners, the organization addresses the root causes of poverty, discrimination, and exclusion. Its geographic footprint spans multiple regions, focusing heavily on rural and underserved areas where children face the greatest vulnerabilities. Plan International Tanzania actively combats harmful traditional practices, such as child marriage and female genital mutilation, which restrict girls’ potential. Through targeted advocacy and community sensitization, they promote gender equality and sexual and reproductive health rights. Additionally, the organization implements robust protection mechanisms to safeguard children from violence, abuse, and exploitation in both schools and communities. Education and economic empowerment form the other vital pillars of their strategy. The organization works to improve access to quality, inclusive education, particularly for girls who face systemic barriers to schooling. They build water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in schools to ensure a conducive learning environment. This is an anticipated project to be implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Prime Minister’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG) as key partners. Implementation will focus on Tanga Region.
