The Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation (MIF) is a prominent Tanzanian non-profit organization dedicated to improving the welfare of women, youth, and children across Zanzibar and the mainland. Officially launched in June 2022 by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the foundation operates under a strategic vision to eliminate “ignorance, poverty, and disease”. It was established by Hon. Wanu Hafidh Ameir, a member of the Zanzibar House of Representatives, who sought to bridge development gaps by complementing government efforts in marginalized communities. The foundation’s operations are centered on three core pillars: Education, Health, and Socio-economic Empowerment. In education, MIF has achieved significant impact by distributing thousands of mattresses and sanitary supplies to secondary schools and implementing the MIF Fellows program to address teacher shortages. These efforts contributed to a dramatic improvement in Form Four examination results in the South Unguja region, raising pass rates from 54.2% to 91.6%. Additionally, the foundation provides vocational scholarships and startup kits to young girls, enabling them to transition from school dropouts to self employed entrepreneurs. In the health sector, the foundation focuses on maternal and newborn health, mental health support, and cervical cancer screenings.
