SOS Children’s Villages Tanzania is a prominent non governmental organization dedicated to supporting children who have lost parental care or are at risk of losing it. Since its establishment in 1991, the organization has expanded its reach across the country, operating major children’s villages in Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, and Zanzibar. Its mission is rooted in the belief that every child deserves to grow up in a loving, stable family environment. The organization employs a two-pronged approach to childcare: Family-Like Care and Family Strengthening Programmes. In the children’s villages, orphaned or abandoned children are cared for by dedicated “SOS mothers” who provide a nurturing home. Simultaneously, the Family Strengthening Programmes work directly with local communities to prevent family breakdown by providing vulnerable parents with vocational training, parenting workshops, and medical assistance. This holistic support helps families stay together and achieve long-term self-reliance. Beyond basic care, SOS Children’s Villages Tanzania emphasizes the importance of quality education and healthcare. The organization manages several kindergartens and Hermann Gmeiner schools, ensuring children have the academic foundation needed to break the cycle of poverty.
