Water For People Tanzania is a dedicated country program launched in late 2022 to combat the critical water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) crises in East Africa. Operating from its main office in Dodoma, the capital city, the organization works directly with local team members, communities, and national bodies. The establishment of this program supports the broader Destination 2030 goal to drastically expand global clean water access and fulfill UN Sustainable Development Goal 6.The initiative places a strategic, high-priority focus on the Mpwapwa District. In this region, a massive portion of public schools lack access to clean water, and community-managed water systems frequently struggle to cover operation costs. To address these structural failures, Water For People implements its sustainable Everyone Forever model. This framework builds regional capacity, unifies small local water organizations into structured networks, and introduces tech innovations like prepaid smart water meters to prevent waste and track usage.By partnering closely with the Tanzanian government and national institutions like RUWASSA, the program ensures long-term institutional accountability. Rather than providing temporary relief, the organization prioritizes market-based sanitation training and localized climate-resilient water systems. This comprehensive approach empowers communities to maintain infrastructure independently, paving a reliable path toward long-term water security and a healthy, sustainable future.
