The East African Business Council (EABC) is the primary peak body representing the private sector in the East African Community (EAC). Established in 1997, this regional apex body drives private-sector-led integration across partner states, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Somalia. Based in Arusha, Tanzania, the council bridges the gap between businesses and policymakers to foster economic growth. The council actively advocates for policies that improve the regional business environment. Its primary mission is to eliminate non tariff barriers, harmonize trade standards, and promote the free movement of goods, services, and labor. By working closely with the EAC Secretariat and national governments, the EABC helps shape regional trade protocols and investment policies that benefit local enterprises. Additionally, the EABC provides a crucial platform for networking, information sharing, and capacity building. It represents various business associations, chambers of commerce, and corporates, ensuring diverse sector voices are heard. Through policy dialogues and trade exhibitions, the council works to enhance the global competitiveness of East African businesses and attract foreign direct investment to the region.
